Seongkeon Oh simply loves making things, in whatever form they might take. He began making music at an early age while living in Toronto, Canada, and the logic of sampling and remixing soon became a method that carried across his practice, from sound to visual work. Drawn to the tension between the fancy and the cheap, his interests often gravitate toward subculture, cult, hip-hop, and things that feel visually and sonically brutal, aggressive, or excessive.
His practice began to shift more seriously toward graphic design after meeting lecturer Yuseon Park in 2024, when he developed a deep interest in typography and naturally gravitated toward editorial and book design. In 2025, he began exploring the handmade web through New Order, a workshop led by Minguhong Manufacturing at Studio Pie. Since then, he has continued building handmade websites from time to time, mostly for the pleasure of making them.
Seongkeon completed a two-month internship at the graphic design studio front-door and is the founder of the Threading Texts Art Book Festival. As a member of the collective BALC, he presented Cradle of Immersion (2025), and with DP PROTOTYPE, staged The Flagging (2024). He is also a student member of the Korean Society of Typography and a former member of HIPS, Dromapic, and Hangulggol.
He believes that “what you like is what you are.” Much of his inspiration comes from the films of Carey Burtt and the works of Monty Richthofen and Jon Rafman, even when their influence is not immediately visible in what he makes.
His own work has explored subjects including African American gang culture, drug smuggling, and violence. He has also designed and developed a website for SYSTEM SEOUL, a Seoul-based collective of musicians whose work has recently gained growing attention.
Seongkeon is currently working on his BA thesis project at Hongik University under the supervision of Jaewon Seok. The project will be presented in December.
